CARBIDE CANNON

Carbide Cannon ( Meriam Karbit ) which is popularly known by locals during “ Hari Raya Idul Fitri “ festival are being seen along Kapuas River at Pontianak. It is a cannon tradition practiced from ancient Pontianak Sultan until today. Kampung Kamboje is a one of the favourite place to see the festival.

                Carbide Cannon game is a tradition and culture of the community of the Kapuas River in familiar played by children and adult. The Sultan than fired the cannon from ship to expel these kuntilanak. And the name was later used kuntilanak to named the city of Pontianak.

                Carbide Cannon is not like the cannon or iron. This cannon made of wood with a diameter of approximately 50cm – 100cm, with a length of between 4 – 7 meters. In one part, precisely in the middle of the cannon was given hole.
